The Green Eagles have surged to the front at the ongoing 2026 Confederation of African Cycling (CAC) Para-Track and Track African Championships, taking place at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome in Abuja.

The championships have drawn top-level riders from across the continent, with strong contingents from Egypt, Kenya, South Africa, Algeria and the host nation Nigeria. With elite participation in the field, the early rounds have been a true test of speed, tactics and fitness.
After two days of hard-fought racing, Nigeria leads the medals standings with an impressive 16 medals: nine gold medals, five silver medals and two bronze medals. That haul places the country ahead of Egypt, Kenya, South Africa and Algeria, reinforcing the momentum Nigeria is building in African cycling.
Egypt is next in the rankings with 14 medals, while Kenya occupies third with nine. South Africa and Algeria round out the top five places on the medals table.
Backed by passionate supporters in Abuja, Nigeria’s riders have sparked excitement throughout the meet. Their efforts have combined pace and stamina with technical sharpness and a clear determination to turn chances into podium results.
Beyond the racing itself, the event has also highlighted the quality of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome, which has earned widespread praise. The championships are serving as a high-level stage for African cyclists, bringing competition of the highest standard to the continent.
Nigeria has previously hosted the competition in 2021 and 2023, and the familiar setting appears to have brought extra edge this time as well. For the current edition, more than 100 cyclists from eight countries have arrived to compete for medals, pride and glory.
