Ogun Deputy Speaker Denies Role in Aide’s PDP Defection, Sticks With APC

Ajayi, in a statement released on Tuesday, rejected attempts to tie her to the political move of a former aide, saying she neither approved the defection nor had any advance awareness of it. She said her own political loyalties remain with the APC.

The Deputy Speaker added that Nigerians have a constitutional right to choose their political affiliations, but warned that private decisions by individuals should not be portrayed as the views or actions of others.

“To remove any doubt, I want to be very clear that the decision by the Personal Assistant to leave the APC for the PDP was made entirely by him, as an adult, without my knowledge, consultation, consent, approval, endorsement, or involvement,” she said.

Ajayi reiterated her commitment to the ruling APC, describing herself as a dedicated stakeholder focused on promoting the party’s principles and its development agenda in Ogun State.

She also restated her backing for the Ogun West governorship ambition, calling it a fair and reasonable initiative that should receive support from residents across the state.

“My political outlook, loyalty, and dedication have not changed. I will keep working actively and consistently for the people of Ogun State, while supporting every appropriate step toward achieving the Ogun West Governorship Agenda, as represented by our respected candidate, Senator Olamilekan Adeola Yayi,” she said.

The Deputy Speaker further emphasized her support for Solomon Olamilekan Adeola—widely known as Yayi—saying she is confident in his governorship bid ahead of the 2027 general election.

She praised Governor Dapo Abiodun for leading the state and pledged to continue working with APC party leadership and other stakeholders to strengthen the party ahead of the polls.

Ajayi urged party members, political contacts, supporters, and the media to ignore what she characterized as misleading claims linking her to her former aide’s defection, insisting her political philosophy and commitment remain the same.

“I therefore urge the general public, particularly my political associates, APC party faithfuls, my respected supporters, and the media, to disregard any baseless rumour, insinuation, speculation, or misinformation connecting the personal choice of the former Personal Assistant to my political journey, principles, or future political activities,” she said.

She assured APC supporters that she will continue pushing for the party’s growth and for progress in Ogun State, while backing efforts aimed at improving the APC’s chances of winning in the 2027 general election.
