The Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) has announced a new set of coaching appointments across its indoor and beach volleyball programmes, naming fresh leaders for the senior, age-grade and beach teams after a screening and selection exercise.
New coaching line-up across NVBF teams
The federation’s decisions cover the Senior Men and Senior Women national teams, the Under-19 and Under-17 categories, as well as both the men’s and women’s beach volleyball squads.
Senior teams
- Taiwo Oladipupo has been appointed Head Coach of the Senior Men’s team, with Twevini Yohanna named Assistant and Setters Coach.
- Jonah Adamu will take responsibility as Offensive Coordinator for the Senior Men’s side.
- Elam Elishama will lead the Senior Women’s team as Head Coach.
- Segun Abinde has been named Offensive Coordinator for the Senior Women’s programme.
- Sunday Yunana Akapson will work as Setters Trainer with the Senior Women.
Under-19 and Under-17 national squads
- Adamu Nite is set to oversee the Under-19 Boys team as Head Coach.
- Ayo Aboderin and Philip Stephen will join Nite to support the Under-19 Boys setup.
- Vincent Unogwu will lead the Under-19 Girls team as Head Coach.
- Bukola Faremi and Chinyere Onuoha will be part of the coaching team for the Under-19 Girls.
- Sunday Yunana Akapson will also coach the Under-17 Girls team.
- Jessica Egwuna and Kinsley Alika complete the technical staff for the Under-17 Girls.
- Suleiman Ajeigbe has been named Head Coach of the Under-17 Boys team.
- Ibrahim Adamu and Osas Omoruyi will assist Ajeigbe for the Under-17 Boys.
Beach volleyball appointments confirmed
Alongside the indoor changes, the NVBF also outlined the coaching staff for its beach volleyball teams.
- Kayode and Felicia Amos will lead the women’s beach volleyball squad.
- John Iwerima and Jonathan Thaj will take charge of the men’s beach volleyball team.
Federation’s objectives: stronger foundations for major tournaments
The NVBF said the appointments are designed to strengthen the technical base of volleyball in Nigeria and to better prepare national teams for forthcoming regional, continental and international competitions.
The federation added that the coaches are expected to bring experience, professionalism and technical know-how to help Nigerian sides challenge on the continental and global stage, while also reinforcing its plan to build a durable talent pathway in both indoor and beach volleyball.
