A candidate, Philips, has moved to quell reports that he may be stepping aside from the race for a seat in the Federal House of Representatives, telling journalists that he remains in the contest.
Denial of withdrawal and intent to contest
In remarks made to reporters, Philips rejected speculation about any potential withdrawal, stating unequivocally that he is still seeking election for the Federal House of Representatives seat.
He said he has already bought the APC expression of interest and nomination forms for the ticket, adding that he views himself as the most suitable candidate and is fully prepared to go through the process.
Direct primary election plans
Philips also confirmed that he is set to take part in the APC direct primary election scheduled for May 18, 2026.
He urged party delegates and supporters throughout Abeokuta South to show up in large numbers to back his bid.
