The 31-year-old musician returned to court as his legal situation escalated, with the prosecution adding 11 further charges to his file. That brings the total number of charges facing Chauke to 20, covering allegations described as serious in nature.

Defence complains about delays as docket issues come up
Inside the courtroom, Chauke’s attorney, Michael Khumalo, voiced dissatisfaction with the time it has taken for the case docket to be supplied to the defence. He said the paperwork was requested while the matter was still being managed at the district court stage.
Khumalo told the court the request was necessary to begin preparations, particularly because of the volume and seriousness of the charges brought against the accused.
- Khumalo said the defence had asked for the docket in order to start preparations.
- The lawyer argued the expanding list of charges has made preparation increasingly urgent.
Even so, Khumalo indicated the defence accepted the prosecution’s undertaking that the docket would be handed over by the following week.
Prosecution seeks postponement; legal team plans changes
Prosecutors asked for a postponement so the defence would have enough time to review the documents once they are received.
The court was also informed that, because of other scheduling commitments, another State advocate may step in to handle the matter at the next hearing. Khumalo additionally said he plans to bring an extra advocate onto Chauke’s legal team as the case continues.
Bail denied, health concerns raised, and next date set
Chauke remains in custody following a recent bail application that was dismissed. His legal representatives confirmed they are preparing to contest the decision through an appeal.
Medical issues were also raised during proceedings, with the defence asking that Chauke be given medical attention while he remains in custody. The court heard that Chauke may stay temporarily at the Polokwane police station to make it easier for him to access treatment, before any potential move to a correctional facility.
The case was then postponed to May 28 for further proceedings.
