Radio personalities Thabo Mokwele popularly known by Tbose, or to his loyal listeners, Uncle T married his wife, Radio 2000’s Mapaseka Mokwele for the third time in celebration of their 20th anniversary in their on-and-off marriage. The couple has easily become one of Mzansi’s favourite love stories for their openness about their relationship, lightheartedness, and not taking each other too seriously.
Although the couple has managed to keep their personal affairs and private lives off the media, some moments during their marriage have made a few headlines. Tbose and Mapaseka divorced in 2013 after 11 years married but they worked things out and remarried in 2016.
This week, they invited guests varying from family, industry friends, and colleagues to a celebration of their love, a romantic day under the theme; “Elegant black with a touch of silver” to which the guests managed to adhere perfectly.
Tbose shared beautiful vows and highlighted the fact that they were very young when they first married, he continued to thank God for their resilience in love. “20 years go when we were first married, I was thinking… we were so young. Just shy off our 30s but we did it. Now we have kids,” said Tbose. He continued to joke “some of our kids are almost going to be older than when we were when we got married the first time.” He continued to serenade his wife with vows, “from me to you, this day is the first half… the first half of us finding each other, finding our rhythm, finding the sweet spots, and doing what God has asked us to do, bringing up children, that part we’ve done. So now, can the next 20 years be about us? Just you and I. Let’s travel the world, let's play, and I know we work hard but we still make it happen.”
After committing his next 20 years to their marriage, Tbose complemented his wife for keeping him young. “I love your young spirit, you bring out the child in me, I love your enduring support, I can face the world and conquer with you by my side I can do anything.” He said he wants to switch roles and be the caretaker and supportive husband this time.
Additionally, he thanked Mapaseka for holding their family together during tough times and ups and downs in their lives and assured her of a future filled with love, adventure and happiness ahead. “I’ve married you twice, I married you twice, and I’m marrying you for the third time now. And I’m telling you, I’m gonna do it again for the next 15. I’ll still marry you. You and I are a story written in heaven, ours is just to walk the journey. I love you,” said Tbose.
He closed his vows off with a beautiful praising of Mapaseka’s clan names in their home language Sepedi to a love-struck audience ululating.
