The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in many people losing their jobs and livelihoods. AKA has extended his prayers to every person who is suffering financially due to the lockdown.
"Hey restaurant, shebeen owners, workers, waiters, waitresses, artists, DJ’s or generally anyone in the hospitality and/or entertainment industry ... I’m thinking about you and praying everything is going to be ok. Stay Strong, Be Resourceful ... sending you LOVE," he wrote.
Under his tweet have been various cries for help from people who are directly affected. A follower who works in the hospitality industry said she has been out of work since March 2020, "We are not coping at all, I work for a cruise ship and we last work in March. No work no pay and we have families depending on us this is just too much."
Others shared the same sentiments as she, proving that times are tough. As much as his business can still be open, his restaurant/club is barred from selling alcohol. He also has an alcoholic brand AKA Cruz Vodka Banana Deluxe under his name so he too can attest to these claims.
Last year Super Mega bought a huge stake of an existing restaurant previously called Cuba Lounge, he has re-named it to Cuba Lounge BLK. The restaurant and night-club is based in Durban, at the Moses Mabhida Stadium complex, and was launched 12 December 2020. AKA described this new business venture as the best and most ambitious he has embarked on in the year 2020.
The rapper was also labelled a COVID-19 influencer after many thought he faked his positive status. Whenever he speaks out about his sentiments about it, he gets dragged. He made controversial tweets about how it is transmitted which saw him questioning the Coronavirus pandemic and how it is transmitted.
"Where is the PROOF that someone can infect another person with a deadly virus Microbe without showing ANY symptoms of the virus that they are carrying? Does that even make sense? How does that even sound logical?"
"Also ... can you get COVID TWICE??? Some say yes some say no. What is the DEFINITIVE answer? If the answer is no ... do I still need to be vaccinated?? Confusion,"
