There is no doubt that late rapper Kiernan Jarryd Forbes better known by his stage name AKA and his father Tony Forbes shared a relationship like no other.
Tony and Lynn made sure that AKA had the best possible upbringing by taking him to the best schools in South Africa and supporting him through his journey as a musician.
Addressing the media after his son’s passing in February Tony asked the nation to come together in prayers and revealed that he would be the family’s spokesperson.
AKA’s fans were moved by Tony’s strength and bravery to uphold his son’s memory in the best possible way.
Tony Forbes led the media briefing. This was the first time that the family has actually spoken out in light of the many conspiracy theories flying around as to the circumstance that led to AKA’s assassination.
The biggest of which was that his friend and DJ, Don Design was involved in the death of his friend and business partner.
Tony Forbes addressed the matter head-on.
“We do not condone what is being said about AKA’s friends.” Moreover, he shared just how much his friends have been supportive at this time by also sharing, “They have extended themselves beyond expectations. They have really really gone out of their way to support us.”
During his memorial, Tony was caught on camera dancing to some of AKA’s oldest songs, before the rapper even made it big. This act warmed the hearts of many as Forbes is exemplary of what a parent should be.
AKA's father Tony Forbes took to Instagram on Instagram on 15 March to pen a sweet post dedicated to AKA's girlfriend Nadia Nakai, following the death of the rapper last month.
AKA was shot dead outside a restaurant in Durban ahead of his performance in the city. Nadia has received outpourings of love, comfort, and support since losing her boyfriend.
She was not excluded from AKA's memorial or funeral service by Tony and his family, even though they weren't married to the rapper. Tony showed appreciation to Nadia in a sweet note, thanking her for loving his son unconditionally.
“@nadianakai Nadia, from the first day that I met you, I knew you were right for my boy. See that smile on his dial! Thank you [for] loving him, he loved you truly. We love you."
