It's been a turbulent start to the week. First there was the news that local hip hop artists were treated badly at Axecess Jozi. But the big news came to us this morning when it emerged that Skwatta Kamp rapper, Flabba had been murdered, allegedly by his girlfriend too! Now there's news that DJ Sbu could be facing the axe at Metro FM!

According to Sunday World, it all started at last week's Metro FM Music Awards, where DJ Sbu apparently angered SABC employers by rocking up at the ceremony in his Mofaya attire with a can of his now famous energy drink in hand. Apparently the promotional stunt was deemed unacceptable by the SABC who then proceeded to suspend the popular DJ.

However, instead of accepting his suspension gracefully, DJ Sbu then decided to pitch to work on Friday, once again, dressed in Mofaya attire. Sunday World reports that the SABC have instructed "To physically block him if he tried to bulldoze his way into their Auckland Park studios."

Sho! So now what must happen?

Sbu's fans have rallied behind him on Twitter, however, and the star has proven that he has a lot of support from all corners of South Africa. There seems to be a disapproval over the manner in which SABC is treating Sbu, by suspending him for promoting his brand.

One tweeter accurately pointed out that when DJ Sbu, Arthur Mafokate and several other celebrities (Both those employed by SABC and those in their personal capacity) were wearing ANC promotional gear, the SABC never had an issue. While I am inclined to agree, I've yet to see an example of these situations where Sbu (or any other SABC employee) was on air or on television, however, I see the point they are trying to get at. Why is it okay to promote the party you support, but not your own business?

A lot of Twitter folk are slamming the SABC over their treatment of DJ Sbu, with many hinting that there may be more to the suspension and threat of firing than meets the eye. Could this be a reaction based on some deeper back-room politics that we just don't understand yet?

Regardless of all the speculation surrounding his future, DJ Sbu seems to be still be smiling and at the end of the day his focus and his passions lie in the same areas: Pushing that Mofaya brand!

I'm still sad because of the Flabba news; have you seen some of the celebrity reactions to the rapper's death?
