According to entertainment commentator Kgopolo "Phil" Mphela, Zandile Lujabe will be starring in the with Phumelele Mthembu, Thami Buti and Makhosazana Ndlovu. The movie is called African America.
‘African America’ is directed by Muzi Mthembu.
"The story revolves around the spunky young woman named Nompumelelo who, upon discovering her acceptance into Julliard, embezzles funds from her workplace and abandons her fiancé in South Africa and flies to America to live out her Broadway dream in New York City. There she discovers that the U.S.A. is not as welcoming as she had dreamed. But there she also learns true love, true happiness, and true citizenship carry with them a deliberate and conscious responsibility"
Speaking to Sydney Levine, Writer and Director of African America Muzi Mthembu said, “My film asks the question, where do we go with our dreams, and this is particularly poignant to ask given the year that we have all just left behind, a year beset by a pandemic that has devastated the medical and economic wellbeing of many, but has more tragically affected communities of color around the world. We see our leaders exploiting the pandemic to corrupt ends, and we have also seen the gross racial injustices that plague the diaspora living in the world’s most affluent and prosperous country on the planet. As a black man living in today’s times, I have found myself ever more frequently asking myself what do I do with my dreams now?”
Other ZAlebs that have upcoming Netflix movies include Ntando Duma who was called on the fan favourite show, The Queen last week.
Unlike her role on The Queen, Ntando's Netflix role will see her become the lead. This is a great career move for Ntando and we do hope people will give her a chance and allow her to grow and perfect her craft without judgement.
Even though this is not a Netflix gig, it is a notable mention. Nomzamo will be starring in a in a revenge thriller titled "Soul Assasin" alongside Bruce Willis.
The movie is directed by Jesse Atlas and is set to be released in 2022.
Deadline revealed that in the movie, a woman’s husband is killed in action as part of an experimental new military program. A former black-ops soldier then takes his place to find his killer. The movie recently wrapped principal photography.
Nomzamo has received a lot of hate for not making it in the States and because of that, this role will solidify the brand she is trying to build in Hollywood.
The Legacy SA actor Anton David Jeftha also bagged himself two roles in two Hollywood movies and one locally produced comedy movie called, The Gang which is set to be released in 2022.
The Gang wrapped up filming on June 8th. The movie is directed by Kganki ‘Star’ Mphahlele and stars Armand Aucamp, Kagiso Modupe, Joey Rasdien, Anton David Jeftha, Xolani Mayekiso and Carpo supported by Pearl Modiadie, Seputla Sebogodi, and many others.
