Idols SA winner Karabo Mogane says he will not fade away into obscurity after the show, and has a plan to stay relevant.

He was crowned the competition's season 11 winner on Sunday night.

Karabo says he is still in shock after his win.

“I am very ecstatic, happy and over the moon. I have been pinching myself all morning. I feel really blessed,” he told ZAlebs.

“We both deserved it”

Despite being a strong contender ever since he auditioned at Sun City, where Idols SA judge Somizi declared he was his number one fan, Karabo says he knew it would be a close race in the end.

“It was a tight race, and having known that, all I could do was pray and ask God, ‘If it is within your will for me to win then I will win, if I not, then I won’t. Either way I would have been happy, because I think we both deserved it.”

His debut single, Ding Dong, has been well received by fans, and Karabo says he is looking forward to his first album being released on 11 December 2015.

So, what can fans expect from his album?

“I would like to tackle as many genres as possible, so that I am able to interact with as many people as possible. I want to have house, soulful music, R&B and soft rock. Just try to mix it up so that I can have a bigger audience,” he said.

“I plan to get myself out there as much as possible.”

Karabo says he is determined to make sure he does not disappear now that his Idols SA journey has come to an end.

“I will do this by staying relevant and keeping my faith. I think if people see you out there doing music, performing at corporate gigs or presenting, you will stay relevant. I plan to get myself out there as much as possible. Just do whatever you need to do for people to see you, and what you are up to.”

The 24-year-old says he also plans to branch out into acting.

“I would like to get into acting, get into radio presenting and sports presenting. If I can achieve one of these in the next year, I will be very excited. And obviously also continue making music. Hopefully, I will be releasing my second album in a year from now. I hope the songs on that album will be songs I wrote myself, because I write music as well. I would like to release my own material.”

“I pray for my fans.”

Karabo says he understands that without his fans he would not be where he is today.

“I love them and I am thankful for them. I pray that God blesses them and opens doors for them, so that whatever dreams they have come to pass, because they have made my dream a reality.”

What did Karabo think about Somizi’s, er interesting, hairdo on Sunday night?

“(Laughs) I was tremendously shocked. I have seen him do some really funky hairstyles. At the end of the day that it is Somizi and he can do whatever he wants and it will be okay. That’s why we love him.”
