Popular South African podcaster Mac G has been cancelled so many times on social media that we’ve lost count. From controversial statement to homophobic statements on his show – the broadcaster keeps landing in hot water. However, at the end of each controversy, there seem to be light and more opportunities. The former Yfm DJ has used the backlash to steer his channel forward – he recently surpassed the 200k mark.

Old Mutual
The infamous episode with Mac G, Sol Phenduka, and Ghost Lady where they spew homophobia by joking about transgender people and their body parts caused an uproar on Twitter. As a result, they lost their sponsor, Old Mutual. The insurance company issued a statement announcing that they’ve terminated their relationship with Mac G."As a responsible business that respects the rights of everyone, we have decided to terminate the relationship with MacG, with immediate effect. We distance ourselves from the harmful commentary against the LGBTQ+ community and humanity at large," read the statement in part.
Studio 88
After losing his deal with Old Mutual, Mac G announced that he had bagged a new sponsor in Studio 88. However, this was short-lived. In a statement published by TshisaLIVE the clothing store announced that they are distancing themselves from the podcast.
Lennox said after offering MacG’s podcast a four-episode sponsorship deal, they’re removing themselves from his podcast because of his homophobic comments.
In light of the above, the Studio 88 Group wishes to distance ourselves completely from the aforementioned statements, podcast and its host/s. We have therefore taken the decision to terminate, with immediate effect, any business/sponsorship relationship we may have with MacG.”
Comments About Boity
In a special episode featuring the Chillers, Nota and Sol. Mac made an insensitive comment about television personality Boity’s sexual orientation. In a game of 'smash', marry or kill, Mac G claimed that Boity has slept with everyone in a derogatory way.
Gareth Cliff Interview
Mac found himself in hot water again following his interview with popular broadcaster Gareth Cliff. Tweeps criticised the host for ‘lack of research in his interviews.’ Some of his fans on Twitter came to defend his broadcasting skills.
