Mzansi will dance in style on Heritage Day, as Master KG and Nomcebo Zikode's hit song Jerusalema, has been given a stamp of approval by the country's president Cyril Ramaphosa to spearhead the country's celebrations on the day. Last night while addressing the nation which is set to move to alert level one, from midnight on Sunday 20 September 2020, president Ramaphosa endorsed the dance challenge and called on everyone to participate on it during the day which celebrate our diversity.
“I urge everyone to use this public holiday as family time, to reflect on the difficult journey we have all traveled, to remember those who have lost their lives, and to quietly rejoice the remarkable and diverse heritage of our nation,”
“And there can be no better way to celebrate of our South African-ness than joining the global phenomenon that is spreading across the world and that is the Jerusalema dance challenge. The Jerusalema song that I love so much So I urge all of you to take up this challenge on Heritage Day and show the world what we are capable of our perfomers have demonstrated to the world that we've got good music and good dance and good move, so quietly let's celebrate our heritage,” he said.
The move to alert level 1 means there will be further easing of restrictions on a number of things including gatherings. Addressing the nation the president said, "Social, religious, political and other gatherings will be permitted, as long as the number of people does not exceed 50% of the normal capacity of a venue, up to a maximum of 250 people for indoor gatherings and 500 people for outdoor gatherings," he said.
The re-opening of events means numeous artists like Master KG and Nomcebo will now be able to benefit from incomes made on events as many artists have been calling for the country to be open under the #VulaPresident. The president also said international travels for business and leisure purposes will also be permitted, which will allow artists to travel to various countries, to give the world a taste of SA music.
Speaking to ZAlebs Nomcebo Zikode recently said the lockdown restrictions on international travels have affected her because she could be touring "It affected me a lot and when I wrote Xola Moya Wam i was like God you can give me a big song like Jerusalema and then you shutdown the world because I need money. When I wrote Xola Moya Wam, I just cried and and I sang the song and I told him that he must calm down because I see that he is angry," she said.
