When Moozlie joined the hip hop fraternity that was Cash Time, many people were skeptical about whether she would be one of South Africa's most credible musicians, let alone rappers.
Now, fast forward to the year 2019 and Moozlie has surpassed everyone's expectations with regards to this music business.
Not only did she win the Best Female Rapper category at last year's SA Hip Hop Awards, but she also launched her own music label amongst her many achievements related to her music career.
Now, fast forward to the year 2019 and Moozlie has surpassed everyone's expectations with regards to this music business.
Not only did she win the Best Female Rapper category at last year's SA Hip Hop Awards, but she also launched her own music label amongst her many achievements related to her music career.
Ok, granted, Moozlie may not have the best punchlines or verses in her music, and some might even argue that her songs aren't even that amazing, so how has she been able to succeed in making a career for herself in the music industry?
In my opinion, the answer is simple, Moozlie recognised that this industry is not just entertainment but it is a BUSINESS, a music business, and in order to survive in this industry it is important to get your corporate grind on and position yourself as a businesswoman or man not just as a rapper or a singer.
Why do you think brands like G.H. Mumm are collaborating with her? It's business, and whether she approached the brand or vice versa, is not really up for debate because at the end of the day her and the brand are doing business.
Yes, we may argue that Moozlie did get a head-start in music as she is one of the most well-known TV presenters in the industry and through that she has managed to develop a very valuable network of people who have played a pivotal role in her music career - i.e. her manger and boyfriend Sbu.
Another aspect about Moozlie to consider is her image. Since she's become an artist, she has positioned herself as one of the few trendsetters in the hip hop community, especially when it comes to fashion and style.
Even when she's dressed down to a T-shirt and track pants, Moozlie still makes it look stylish and trendy.
It's like every move she makes is calculated; she's at that point in her career when she just doesn't do things for the sake of doing them, there needs to be an end goal to everything she puts her name on. Whether it has to do with money or her legacy.
Moozlie may not be your favourite rapper, but from where we're standing, she might just have a long lasting career in this music thing.
So, if you're an aspiring artist and are wondering how come Moozlie has suddenly blown up in the music industry, take these words from her into consideration and maybe, just maybe, you could find yourself eating at the same table she's seated at.
