Representing ZAlebs, I had the pleasure of attending the 6th annual Cape Town Carnival and with that, I was able to watch on as over 2000 performers brought this year's theme, elemental, to life.

The #capetowncarnival is a free event hosted by the City of Cape Town to celebrate its diverse culture through food, music and art. An estimated 55 000 spectators packed the streets of Green Point this year, all to be dazzled by the 20 floats and puppets on show.

The 47 community group performers kept the crowd entertained with bellydancing, foot stomping dance moves to the sound of beating drums. The rhythm was complimented by trumpets and horns that blew as parades made their procession down the fanwalk.

Receiving a hero's welcome were about 600 of the City's firemen, saluted for their dedicated efforts during the #capetownfires recently. While they were fighting fire just a few weeks ago, they brought flames of a different kind to this year’s Carnival!

Later, it was off to the REDDS Afterparty with headline acts Beatenberg and Cassper Nyovest, both of whom scooped four SAMA nominations recently, on hand to entertain the crowd.

Partygoers danced the night away and when Doc Shebeleza came on, the atmosphere was explosive. Cassper Nyovest is SA’s biggest rapper for a reason. His studio tracks may be bangers, but he’s a beast on stage and sure knows how to get the crowd going.

The loveable lads from Durban, Beatenberg, closed off the party; leaving the crowd begging for more!

I have to offer a massive well done to the organisers. Both the Carnival and Afterparty were a resounding success. Can it already be 2016 so we can go again?

Does any other city in South Africa organize a spectacle as colourful and explosive as the Cape Town Carnival?
