Ayeye fans will be delighted to learn that their favorite show is returning to the small screens soon, but with a new format and cast.
The highly acclaimed and much-loved first season of the show featured a star-studded cast including Thapelo Mokoena, SK Khoza, Zola, Vusi Kunene and Jessica Nkosi.
Since the show's first season ended, avid viewers have been asking for a second, and it is finally here.
The show returns with a new season on Mzansi Magic on 5 August titled Ayeye: Stripped - with some exciting new twists. The show originally aired on 1Magic and dealt with messy love lives, testy friendships, and soaring careers for three male best friends.
The second season promises to leave viewers on the edge of their seats; however, there are major changes surrounding it. According to the channel, Ayeye Stripped will now tell the story of a rich stay-at-home mom who becomes an adult content creator in order to maintain her lifestyle after her baby daddy dies and his family takes everything.
Joining this season is multi talented actress and singer Rosemary Zimu who stars as Zoleka, a 30-year-old left on the verge of destitution. This forces her to find other ways to keep her lavish life and to keep her son off the street. Will her new vocation make life easier, or will things only get more difficult?
Produced by the award-winning Seriti Films (Gomora, The Herd, The Imposter 2), the 13-part drama series is the latest in MultiChoice’s series to be adapted into an anthology show – where each new season of a show features different faces and new stories within a similar universe.
“As a channel, we’re adaptable and ahead of the curve, which is why we’re embracing the anthology format for some of our shows. The first season of Ayeye gave viewers plenty to talk about, and this new season is just as topical,” says Shirley Adonisi, Director of Local Entertainment Channels at M-Net.
“It’s important that we keep up with what’s happening in the world around us and reflect that on screen. It’s also exciting for our DStv Compact subscribers to be among the first to get this show on their screens,” she concludes.
With the first season originally set against the backdrop of the hip and creative Maboneng Precinct of Johannesburg, Ayeye: Stripped takes us into the world of the 1% (and those pretending to be the 1%): it’s set in Johannesburg’s swanky Bryanston.
Also starring in Ayeye: Stripped are a number of stars who are on the rise, including radio personality Zama Ngcobo; Big Brother Mzansi season 3's Luthando 'BU' Mthembu; soapie actor Kealeboga Masango; and Abomama's Pabee Moganedi; and Isibaya's Charles Phasha.
Forced to take ownership of her life and to adapt or die, will Zoleka make it? After all, there’s only one way to go after hitting rock bottom… right? Tune in to Ayeye: Stripped on Mzansi Magic (DStv Channel 161) starting Friday 5 August at 20h00. It’s going to be a banger!
