On this Throw Back Thursday, we are looking at two popular 90s groups Abashante from the 999 record label and Boom Shaka from Kalawa Jazmee.
90s music was the best, kwaito was making airwaves and the music will live on for years to come.
Abashante consisted of lead singer, Queen (Iyaya) Sesoko, Zanele (Nestum) Nyakale, Abel (Aba) Golepe who died and was replaced by Tebogo (Zombo) Ndlovu and the most enchanting choreography by Hazel Mzolo.
Here they are with Senzanje
The group has since parted ways. Queen tried making a come back with an album, Nestum is now a radio presenter on Lesedi FM, Zombo passed away in 2008 and Hazel has since become a make-up artist.
Our ultimate favorite song from Abashante is definitely Come and Get Me
Boom Shaka set the standard high for kwaito groups back in the days. Most of us even took it to the extent of copying their hairstyles and dress sense at some point in our childhood years.
Lebo Mathosa (1997-2006), Thembi Seete, Theo Nhlengethwa and Junior Sokhele were members of the group.
Lebo Mathosa became a successful solo artist before passing on in 2006, Thembi Seete has made a name for herself in the acting industry, Theo Nhlengethwa recently released new music and Junior has been away from the public eye.
One of their popular songs which music lover went crazy over Thobela was released in 1996 from their album It's Our Game (No Need to Claim)
