If you do not watch the animation series on Netflix, then you might not know about the black-centric animation titled My Dad The Bounty Hunter which first premiered on the subscription video-on-demand platform.
First premiering back in February 2023, the premise is reportedly based on:
“An 8-year-old Sean and his big sister Lisa go over to their Dad’s place to spend the weekend. But when Dad gets a work call, they try to avoid boredom by sneaking into the trunk of his car, only to find that they’ve ended up in space. It turns out that Dad is not the truck driver they thought he was but is actually an intergalactic bounty hunter.”
The first season already had a stellar cast of prominent African-American cast members including Laz Alonso, Yvonne Orji, Priah Furguson, and Yvette Nicole Brown.
Following the animation series, which had a total of ten episodes during the first season, it reportedly did well in countries including New Zealand, Central and Eastern Europe.
As such, the series is allegedly already in production for its second season which is set to premiere in August 2023. Netflix has confirmed that it is expanding its universe which will include new cast members joining the cast.
Hence it was confirmed that Thando Thabethe will be joining the series as part of its new cast members including a list of African-American actors like Janet Hubert, Keith David, Tim Meadows, Ralph Ineson, Chelsea Peretti and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje.
Thando has been receiving congratulatory messages since she shared the news via her social media feeds of the notable achievement of breaking into the mainstream Netflix universe, which puts her in good stead to possibly feature or lead in a US-based Netflix series in the future.
