Mzansi rallies behind Thuso Mbedu ahead of the International Emmy Awards

People have shown major support to South African actor Thuso Mbedu after she jetted off to New York to attend the International Emmy Awards, taking place today.

Everybody is rooting for Thuso Mbedu, who has been nominated in the Best Performance by an Actress category. This is her second nomination in the same category. The 27-year-old, who wowed the nation on Mzansi Magic drama series Isthunzi, wrote on Instagram recently: "The fact that I’m here is more than a blessing and I hope I have done the continent proud through this nomination."

Scores of people have shown love to the Thuso.

Although the star is doing very well for herself, and making the whole country proud, her international achievements haven't made it easy for her as an actress.

In an interview on Afternoon Express a few months ago, she said: "For me, personally, just from my experience, I think our industry doesn't want, doesn't allow for people to grow. It's like, uhm... after the [first] nomination, I remember I had a sit-down meeting with one of the, a couple of producers and they were like 'ah, we should have tried to get you before the nomination because now you're too expensive'. That time we hadn't even discussed contracts," she said.

Thuso added: "But then also it's like, 'we wanna show you that you're not better than us'. That's been my experience..."
