There are certain television shows that portray the realities of life - which ironically rubs the viewers the wrong way.
In the year 2012, lovers of all things television saw the return of the much controversial drama series called Yizo Yizoon SABC 1. Now, this was the kind of show that your parents would advise you not to watch; because of the provocative and somewhat aggressive approach to real-life storytelling.
It was this type of approach that didn't sit well with many of the viewers who feared the negative impact that Yizo Yizo could potentially have on society, especially the youth.
After numerous back and forth discussions between the producers of the show and the powers that be at the SABC, the show was aired for only one of it's three seasons.
Fast forward to the year 2019, the South African television landscape has been shaken up by another thunderous reality show - Uyajola 9/9.
The controversial show airs on Moja Love, channel 157 on Sunday night. From the moment it was announced, many predicted that the show will be one for the books ... And boy did it do just that!
However, the much talked about show may be coming to an end, as it was recently reported that the producers of the show have decided to park it until further notice.
According to Isolezwe, Moja Love's spokesperson, Lindiwe Mbonambi revealed the following:
"The viewers complaints to the Broadcasting Complaints Commission of South Africa (BCCSA) had nothing to do with the canning of the show. The production company has decided to take a break from producing Uyajola9/9."
The graphic nature of Uyajola9/9 has continuously left a sour taste in the viewers mouths. With some even calling for the show to be taken off air.
Only time will tell if the show will make a return once more on our television screens.
