Born Bulelwa Mkutukana, Zahara started singing at the tender age of six-years-old. She released her debut album Loliwe in 2011 which went on to break music records in the country. The album went double platinum in just a few days, selling over a 100 000 copies in South Africa alone. The following year she walked away with eight South African Music Awards including 'Best Female Artist' and 'Album of the Year.'
