It's been a long time coming for songstress Zandie Khumalo as she released her much-anticipated album Izikhali ZaMantungwa.
The singer officially launched not only her debut album but her solo career as well. And everyone, including myself, was happy to see her perform some tunes from her the album live, and it was nothing short of amazing as it exceeded my expectations.
As Zandie stepped on stage, many things that stood out about her, from her Colgate smile to her intense vocals that kept me captivated and wanting more. Needless to say, that is precisely what happened after the singer gave an incredible performance where she rendered Nang’ uMakoti - which has now become one of my favourites songs from her album.
Her performance of Nang’ uMakoti guided by church infused chords and an R&B touch. The song had everyone on their feet dancing, Her sister - Kelly Khumalo led friends and fans in a wedding step that had many dancing in joy and singing in one accord.
And of course her friends and family came through to support, amongst the A-listers present was 999 record label owner Arthur Mafokate, sister and musician Kelly Khumalo and musician Candy Mokwena just to name a few.
Zandie says that she was excited to finally release her album and have her family and fans support her in this new project.
"It felt good to have my family and friends there to support me on my big day. And I'm very excited about the fact that I finally have a chance to release my work of art and thank you so much to everyone that has supported this project thus far."
Arthur Mafokate who was also in attendance mentioned that she couldn’t have picked the right time to release her debut album.
“I was excited to see Zandie finally doing her solo thing. It’s been a long time coming, and I'm one of those people that have been hoping to see her do her solo album. She’s been supportive of her sister for all these years, and that just shows the kind of person she is, she had to wait for the right time to do it"
Arthur went on to add that he was shocked to hear that Kelly Khumalo had never performed without her sister and was humbled to see her spread her wings.
"I mean I was shocked the other day when Kelly said she has never performed without Zandie before. And here we are with Zandie out there on her own and seeing her sister here to support her makes people like us also humble ourselves and come to the launch."
With Zandie Khumalo’s amazing vocals and finally moving away from her sister's shadow, the singer is claiming her thrown and driving smoothly in her lane.
