On Friday afternoon, ZAlebville was on high alert after popular DJ, DBN Gogo found herself at the top of South Africa’s trending list on Twitter. The hitmaker who has been in the entertainment industry for a couple of years has had a very successful career with little to no controversies until now.
After attending the launch of The Real Housewives of Lagos on Thursday, the hitmaker took to her Twitter account to condemn tweeps for ‘controlling how people look’ after she was criticized for how her outfit of the night, “wish you guys could keep ur negative opinions to yourself especially when people are content and happy with how they’ve presented. You’ll never control how anyone looks. You can however control your mouths,” she wrote.
As soon as Dbn Gogo put out that statement, Twitter went into overdrive searching for any mean tweets she could have posted throughout the years and within a few minutes of her tweet being up, social media users dug up her old opinions and accused her of being a hypocrite.
After a deep dive into her account, here are some of the tweets that made her trend for all the wrong reasons.

In 2014, she wrote, “My helper is the most annoying thing in the world! I could karate chop her. Nxa!’
In 2015, she wrote, “I’m not happy ngomcondo ka Pearl Thusi,” and in the same year, she was also caught dragging Cassper, “Urg, I’m sure when Cassper [Nyovest] sits on the toilet, with [his] ponytail libuya neshlama."
DBN Gogo is not the only star who has allegedly made disparaging comments about people on the internet. In 2018, Boity Thulo was forced to apologize after tweets of her homophobic rant resurfaced, in a series of tweets that have now been deleted, the starlet made shocking comments about an onscreen gay couple, “This dude is exactly like Senzo. How creepy,” she wrote, making reference to the former Generations actor. She then went on to add “And I think he might be gay. Lord forbid. Death.”
After being called out, the hip-hop star apologized, “I was naive, homophobic, young and didn’t know better. I was 19 and my views on sexuality were warped. We grow, our views change and we do better. It’s gut-wrenching and embarrassing to see them now however I am not the same person I was 10 years ago.”
In the same year, Nadia Nakai was also held accountable for homophobic tweets she made in 2010. The Young, Famous & Rich star took to Twitter to clear her name and apologize, “I was childish because I was a child!! I'm sorry if they offended you. It just further shows how people on these Twitter streets don't know me and my heart‚" she said.
In 2021, Twitter CSI’s dug up Tshepi Vundla’s old tweets after she was a guest on, ‘On the table’, a podcast from the MacG network, during the conversation, the influencer made a comment about ladies who ask men for things, she asked, "Where are your parents, can't you buy these things for yourself, but you expect men to do these things for you."
Social media users weren't happy with what she said and her homophobic, fatphobic, classist, and mean tweets were put on blast. After a short social media hiatus, Tshepi came back to Twitter and apologized, "Firstly I would like to apologize for my past posts on social media. They were mean and demeaning and there is no excuse for them," she said in a statement.
