In a shocking turns of events, advocate Malesela Teffo has withdrawn from the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial.
Since the Meyiwa murder trial began, it has been full of dramatic moments. Teffo, who was representing four of the accused in this matter, informed the court that he would no longer be representing them.
โOn the 28th of April, when I was arrested before your court, your lordship. That was the plan hatched in the office of the president, the number 1 office of the number one in the country that I am a problematic advocate. I am interfering with the plan that has been hatched that my client should take the responsibility of the murder of Senzo Meyiwa, despite the facet that they were innocent," he told the court.
Teffo stated to the media outside the North Gauteng High Court that he is being harassed by the police, the state, and the courts.
Tweeps have reacted to the news.
Thutoblogs wrote "Adv Teffo is in danger!! I mean we all can see that ...You think with all the hardwork and effort he placed in a case he would just withdraw ...what i know is even if for real he withdrew he is still going to fight indirectly so!!
@DeJureBelli2 wrote "Adv Teffo is right to withdraw... Even the state does not want justice, they are all just against him! There is not transparency and Equality from the State and NPA #SenzoMeyiwatrial
@joy_zelda wrote "Give credit to Adv Teffo for fighting for Kelly Khumalo and Longwe Thwala protected by the NPA,Bheki Cele and the Judge His been disrespected,Harrassed,Humiliated for doing his job and its the greatest. fighting for his innocent clients Am Proud of him."Last month Teffo left tongues wagging after he claimed that Kelly Khumalo allegedly fired the fatal shot that claimed the life of Senzo Meyiwa.
Teffo alleged that Senzo had already died when he was transported to the hospital, โWe will call the witness who will testify that Senzo Meyiwa died on the scene. When you say they took him to the hospital to save his life, actually, they were going to dump him at the hospital mortuary,โ he alleged.
Teffo further argued that the scene had been tampered with during the cross-examination of Sgt Thabo Mosia, the first forensic officer who went to the crime scene.
โThat scene was not complete without the body of Senzo Meyiwa. I put it to you that the fact that the body of Senzo Meyiwa was removed from the scene was contamination of the scene because it was taken by the people who do not have medical training,โ he added.
