Cassper Nyovest might have had one of his most lucrative years in terms of revenue in 2022. However, that does not mean that his economic wins were from his music career. An aspect of the rapper turned businessman’s trajectory that has become a site of contention for Hip-Hop heads.

This is as 2022 might have arguably been Cassper’s worst year in terms of music. This is as Mufasa had released over three singles in the year. All of which might have trended and topped the Apple Music charts during their first week of release. But soon after, failed to make the type of impact his earlier music used to make.

As such, Cassper was trolled for filth during the entire year for his lacklustre musical pursuits. A trend which seems like it will continue well into 2023, if he does nothing to improve his musical releases this year.

Recently on social media there was the trend of sharing things you like, dislike, think are overrated, and things you would like to see in the future. The trend soon had a Hip-Hop edition of the trend where South Africans were sharing their version using South African rappers.

As soon as the trend went viral, Cassper started to top the trends list. However, it was not for the right reasons. This is as while there were some that considered him the greatest of all time or the rapper they liked.
For the most part, most of the shared lists considered Mufasa as either the rapper they disliked the most or the rapper they believed was the most overrated.
These sentiments come off the back of Nyovest’s own assertions that he is not looking to prove himself anymore. The Doc Shebeleza hitmaker made it clear that he has earned his stripes in music and his catalogue speaks for itself.
Despite this fact, it does seem that Cassper in 2022 seemed to have understood the concerns of his fans in terms of his music production as he asserted that he plans to be more focused with his music this year. As reported at the time:

Cassper set  to "seriously" return to music in 2023

Taking to Twitter recently, Cassper Nyovest revealed why he believes that his music has taken a dive in terms of its overall reception from music lovers. This is as he attributed the decline in the popularity of his recent releases to how much his brand has diversified in the past.

Included in his diversification was the launch of his alcohol beverage Billiato, his involvement in fashion with his Drip affiliated business Root of Fame, and the launch of his celebrity boxing matches with Siv Ngesi touted as the next contender to take him on in the ring.

As such, Nyovest asserted that in 2023, he wants to take the time to focus on creating quality and impactful music. This sentiment came off the back of a tweep and fan of his music suggesting that this would have been the perfect time for Nyovest to release an album. This is as South Africans are still awaiting a Song of the Year to usher in the New Year.
