Remember when we said Makhadzi was on an insane winning streak? Yeah, that’s still very much on fire.
The talent, whom fans have dubbed the African Beyonce, has just bagged herself a huge international nod. First, she performed at the AFRIMA awards, then she won one herself. Multiple videos have surfaced online of the humble queen absolutely bodying her performance, then running on stage to collect her “Artist of the year” award in the Continental Category.
For the win, she beat out other African bigwigs: Nigeria’s Burna Boy, Tanzania’s Diamond Platnumz, and Congo’s Fally Ipupa, which makes the win that much more impressive.
It would seem that the singer is still overcome with emotion, as she is yet to celebrate with her fans. She went on Facebook to ask her fans if they were awake so she could share the news.
But she came to find that her thunder had already been stolen by Master KG, who had already posted the news on his own social media. Although it was probably in jest, one fan pointed out that Master KG had already shared the news, and it was old news by the time she would be sharing it.
Makhadzi’s fans are obviously very proud of her, and they have been showering her with love and praise in her comments section since the announcement.
But naturally, there will always be haters, and they are not letting this opportunity to troll Makhadzi slide. They immediately look to Twitter to drag her, completely ruining her moment.
Many seemed to be particularly triggered by the fact that her fans were calling her the next Brenda Fassie, which is a high praise that has been given to her on multiple occasions. They took offense and implied that Makhadzi is nowhere near close to where the late legend got her career, and that it is an insult to Brenda’s name and legacy to compare her to someone with just two hit songs.
It is quite unfortunate that her moment is being ruined like this. We guess Makhadzi just provides an easy target for bullies, as they are always coming after her unprovoked. This time, though, they have really tried it. They could have at least waited for the hype surrounding her win to die down before trashing her again.
But the best thing about Makhadzi, aside from her stage presence, of course, is that she never lets the hate get to her. She rises above it all, and this time, she will certainly do the same. Meanwhile, we can’t wait for the next win, and we know it will be coming soon.
