The Wife will be making some drastic changes as Mbalenhle Mavimbela is reportedly leaving. The talented actress who played the much loved Hlomu, is said to be leaving the show, as - according to Phil Mphela - shooting the upcoming third season would not have been ideal for her.

The Showmax telenovela started out with the original wife, Mahlomu and viewers grew fond of her. Mbalenhle embodied the character so much that people cannot stand the pssibility of a new Mahlomu, should the producers decide to recast her.
The entertainment commentator broke the news of Mbalenhle's exit and speculated that there is a personal issue that restricts her from shooting the upcoming season.
"The Wife without Mbali will be a tad strange because she really dazzled in this role. The move could also be temporary, should they get more seasons. If they don’t recast in her absence, I would want to see her return," said Phil.
Phil, who seems to know the reason for her exit, did not want to divulge much about the reason for her exit but said she is not in a place to shoot, "Can’t say. Not my place. Let’s just say, shooting was not gonna be ideal for her right now."
Viewers are speculating that Mbalenhle might be pregnant as she played the pregnant role quit convincingly well in the last few episodes on The Wife.
Just when people were getting excited that they will finally get to experience the real version of The Wife, which is taken directly from the book, this major change takes place.
Phil Mphela once reported that The Wife producers will listen to their viewers cries by sticking to the book, instead of adding their own 'unneeded' twists and turns in the series. These turns totally deviated away from the book which did not work in their favour. Nontheless, they managed to capture a number of people and broke Showmax records.

"WORD IS The Wife series to reflect the book. Looks like your reactions to the #TheWifeShowmax series have not fallen on deaf ears. The murmur is that the third season of the series will veer closer to the book. The new season is still in pre-production," announced Phil Mphela.
With this news, some people felt as though the damage had already been done as there were certain occurrences which lead to the storyline completely botched. Like Hlomu sleeping with Qhawe, her husband's brother who also had a rush on her How about the time Mandisa burnt the money which guaranteed her best friend, Zandile's freedom.
Khanyi Mbau herself even slammed the show and apologised on their behalf for not living up to their expectations.
"Great concerns flying around regarding season 2 of The Wife Showmax. I think let’s address this issue! CAUSE I SEE IT TOO!!" she started off. "We have let you down, we have not given you what you wanted , what you had anticipated! a love story between Zandile and Nkosana. That’s what we all hoped to experience."
"The Wife Showmax has become more of a crime drama series on a lot of prison scenes, people going missing...hate and mystery instead of a warm, sexy story about a man a woman who should be in love."
She then further added, "The book had all the romance a wife should experience with her better half and we watched them develop into a married couple and it gave us all the feels
"But season two didn’t give us enough love, and companionship from Zandile and Nkosana and that is why you are all so disappointed, I am too. The book version shares so much intimacy, seduction, and love, a story about patience and triumph and that's why we feel we let you down."
