She now gets to bless Mzansi’s big screens every weekday at 20:30 on Mzansi Magic, thanks to the new much-anticipated telenovela Diep City. The show tells a story of four young women who are struggling to make their way in life, who then end up in crime so to make ends meet. Nozuko plays the lead role of Nokuthula “Nox” Jele who is an ex-con.
Just three episodes down, South Africans have already shown love over Nozuko’s role and to the show at large.
Some of the local actors couldn’t hide their excitement over the show. The Queen’s Zenande Mfenyana took to Twitter and said: “Black Brain has done it again! #DiepCityMzansi is too nice! I’m hooked! The acting, scoring, and cinematography”.

Nozuko is an actress who first gained popularity when she joined SABC 1’Skeem Saam, playing the character of Ayanda who was Jama’s girlfriend – Jama played by Oros Mampofu.
After she left Skeem Saam, Nozuko went and joined e.tv’s Scandal playing the character of Phindile who worked her way up from being a cleaner to becoming a receptionist at NFH. Nozuko is still part of Scandal that airs every weekday on e.tv at 19:30.

However, before her debut on the big screen, Nozuko was mainly a theatre actor. She was in productions such as Talking Spirits at The Playhouse in Durba; AntiChrist at the Baxter Theatre in Cape Town and a leading role in Sugary Spice, which had runs at the Olive Tree and Stable Theatre.
The KZN born star says Diep City came in at the right time in her life. She says more than anything she feels honored by working with some of the industry’s veterans. “I feel honored having to work with the likes of Mandla N, Hamilton Dhlamini, and Mduduzi Mabaso. I feel blessed”.
The actress says she also enjoys playing Nox and she will continue to do best by the character.
Some of the stars that make the show are Zikhona Bali, Kgaogelo Monama, Nompumelelo Vilakazi, and the veteran Thandeka Dawn King who play the characters of Asanda, Lerato, Snenhlanhla, and Thandiwe respectively.
Speaking to Daily Sun, Diep City’s producer Mandla N said people are going to be blown away.
“The secret recipe behind great storytelling is a mix of several ingredients – a relatable storyline, great casting, and a passion for film making,” he said.
“We expect viewers to be blown away by Nox’s story, which is one of poverty, heartbreak, redemption and hope, all encompassed into one crime thriller”.
