Shauwn Mkhize has decided to put her riches to good use once again by assisting families hit very hard by the KZN floods. The floods which wreaked havoc in various parts of KwaZulu-Natal this past month, saw people's livelihoods getting destroyed as well as many citizens loosing their lives.

Shauwn Mkhize has gone out of her way to assist families the best way she knows how. She photographed herself handing out food items to some members of the community and said she would be continuing this good initiative in more days to come.

"My first stop done, my heart is fulfilled, we will continue again tomorrow as the second stop we were unable to access today."

But that's not all, according to City Press, Shauwn Mkhize will also be assisting the people who were displaced after their properties were damaged, by building 20 homes. The publication states that over 15 000 homes were destroyed while 435 people lost their lives.

Speaking to the publication, Shauwn said, "I am a mother and a family person. More importantly, I am from KwaZulu-Natal and these are my people. I know they are going through a hard time, not having a roof over their heads and not knowing where to go next when they leave the halls."

Without disclosing what her budget for the project is, she said it is not about the money, “All I want to do is lend a helping hand and make a difference where I can. It’s not about me, but about those destitute families. I don’t want to hog the limelight for this. I want to give hope during these challenging times. I am a servant of God and I believe that God has sent me to help them.”

This would not be the first time MaMkhize does something like this for other families. If you may recall, she had built homes for 20 families with the help of the department of correctional services.

She also touched on that initiative, “It’s not the first time that I am doing this with the department. Remember, they have prisoners who are doing labour courses including building, carpentry, plumbing and electricity. So we are going to use some of those people, with supervision from qualified personnel.

Another good samaritan is Ayanda Ncwane who got her hands dirty assisting people of the affected areas. She went home to Ndwedwe and paid some of the families a visit in order to assist them with whatever little she can.

"Yesterday I visited most of the families who are now homeless and stranded. Homes are washed away and bereaved families are mourning at the neighbor’s or relative’s places," she said.

"It’s one thing watching the news it’s another when you hear them tell you how they had to dig their loved ones for days…ohh and some are still buried under heavy stones or washed away in the rivers."

"We have done our little bit to donate towards funerals and other emergencies but it’s not enough as there’s way too many people in need. I’m pleading with business owners who are rural born to check our people. Already it’s difficult to burry one person, most of these people have from 2 to 10 bodies per family to burry soon.

"Anything you can bring forward please do! Mostly they need WATER ASAP! They are currently drinking dirty water. My team and I are trying our best to deliver water but it’s not enough, more liters are needed urgently!"

Zakes Bantwini as well together with DJ Tira, Nomcebo Zikode, radio DJ Tbo Touch, and Drip founder Lekau Sehoana, are to raise at least R1 million.

“We are calling upon anyone in a position to help to lend aid, use your voice and your platform to assist in rebuilding KZN, and helping those affected by the floods,” he said. Nomcebo also reveled that they have raised close to R300 000 within a few minutes.
