Zodwa Wabantu is no doubt one of Mzansi’s most controversial entertainers, as she is often dragged for her lewd dressing and performances. But now it looks like she may have made international enemies, as she may be arrested in Botswana.
Reports recently emerged that a warrant for her arrest has been issued in Botswana. She could be charged with violating the laws of Botswana and Humanity Ethics. This arises from the fact that she dresses scantily and is a self-titled pantyless dancer, who often takes off her underwear on stage, flashes her essentials, and lets people touch her inappropriately during her performances.
The dancer was booked to perform at the Take It Easy Music Festival in Maun. The event promoters released a statement on social media, saying that she would not be headlining their event as earlier announced.
The statement said that even without the Botswana Police stopping her from gracing the event, the Bogosi Leadership of Maun village, where the festival was to take place, would not have let her perform there.
Mzansi social media users are torn on the merit of the arrest warrant. Some agree with the decision, saying that she should know the laws of the land in which she intends to perform, and endeavour to follow them.
On the other hand, others have vindicated her, blaming the debacle on the event organizers. They must have known their laws, and known that her main mode of entertaining audiences is by dancing semi-nude. So it makes no sense that they booked her anyway, knowing that she would be violating both the law and common convention.
This is not the first time that Zodwa is facing international backlash. About four years ago, she was banned from Zimbabwe after she refused to wear panties to her performance, saying that doing so would be “compromising her brand”.
The performer recently split Mzansi in two when she took her son Vuyo to “work”. For context, he is only 13 years old, and she took him to the club. She said it was important for children to know what their parents do for a living, and she wanted him to know where his school fees came from.

She recently set the internet ablaze when she posted a video of herself using muthi. In the video, she seemed to be praying. In the accompanying caption, she said that she would be adding the names of those who had wronged her. She warned that things wouldn’t go too well for them, and when that started to happen, they would know it was because of her.
Well, it looks like Zodwa’s muthi may have worked in reverse for her, since she is the one facing charges in a foreign land not too long after. She is yet to give any comments on the warrant.
