The Super Eagles are set to hold their last official workout at The Valley on Friday, ahead of Saturday’s Unity Cup Tournament final against Jamaica.
Head coach Eric Chelle’s team trained at Cray Valley on Thursday and will use the session today to lock in tactics, refine set patterns, and make any necessary changes to personnel for the clash at the Charlton Athletic Stadium.
Chelle suggested he may rotate his starting XI after Tuesday’s 2-0 semi-final win over Zimbabwe, with the final also serving as an opportunity to assess a squad that has included a number of experimental choices.
Wrexham AFC goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo is expected to keep his place between the posts after recording a clean sheet on Tuesday. The back four of Chibueze Oputa, Chibuike Nwaiwu, Igoh Ogbu, and Obinna Igboke is also likely to remain intact. Ogbu, who is with Slavia Prague, earned his senior national team breakthrough during last year’s edition of the Unity Cup.
In midfield, Africa Cup of Nations veteran Tochukwu Nnadi is forecast to team up with US-based midfielder Alhassan Yusuf and former under-17 captain Samson Tijani.
Up front, the attack is anticipated to include Terem Moffi, Philip Otele, and debutant winger Femi Azeez, who netted both goals in the semi-final against Zimbabwe. Azeez’s brace also marked him as the first Nigerian debutant to score twice in a senior match since Mathias Obianika scored against Burkina Faso 55 years ago.
Cyprus-based goalkeeper Francis Uzoho, midfielder Tosin Oyedokun, and forwards Owen Oseni and Rafiu Durosinmi are among the options available from the bench.
Nigeria head into the final as the defending champions. The Super Eagles overcame Jamaica 5-4 on penalties following a 2-2 draw in the title match on May 31, 2025. The West African side also lifted the trophy in the previous two editions, in 2002 and 2004.
