Marco Silva Set to Leave Fulham as Bassey, Iwobi, Chukwueze Exit Confirmed

Marco Silva is set to depart Fulham this summer, bringing to an end a five-year stint that delivered Premier League progress and helped develop several Nigeria internationals, including Calvin Bassey, Alex Iwobi and Samuel Chukwueze.

The Portuguese coach’s exit was confirmed by Fulham owner Shahid Khan, and it arrives while speculation continues to link Silva with a move to Benfica. In Lisbon, he is viewed as the leading option to replace Jose Mourinho, whose return to Real Madrid is widely expected.

Chukwueze’s time in west London was shaped by Silva’s personal recruitment. The winger arrived on a season-long loan from AC Milan in September 2025 after being persuaded by the Fulham manager to join. He found his sharpest rhythm from November through January, creating a serious attacking threat alongside Iwobi. However, Fulham ultimately chose not to trigger a €24 million purchase clause, meaning Chukwueze will return to Milan this summer.

For Iwobi and Bassey, the focus now shifts to what comes next. Under Silva, Iwobi reinvented himself as a more forceful central midfielder, while Bassey established his reputation as one of the Premier League’s most reliable centre-backs. With Silva’s departure now confirmed, both players will be watching closely to see how the squad is reshaped and what their roles will look like under the incoming manager.

Silva’s Fulham story began at Craven Cottage in 2021, and he quickly made an impact. In his first season in charge, he guided the club to the Championship title—Fulham’s first league crown in 21 years. From there, he oversaw four straight top-flight campaigns, culminating in a standout 2024-25 where Fulham set a club record with 54 points.

“Fulham and Marco were an excellent fit for five seasons, but change is inevitable in this game,” Khan said, adding that the club will act quickly to appoint a successor.

In his farewell statement, Silva acknowledged the bond he has built with the club and left the possibility of a return open. “Fulham will always be in my heart,” he said, “and sooner or later I will be back at Craven Cottage.”
