Just days after Senegal’s heartbreaking exit from the 2026 World Cup in the round of 16, where they were beaten 2-3 by Belgium, Sadio Mané has announced that his international career is coming to an end. The 34-year-old made the decision in a statement carried by Senegalese publication Le Quotidien.
Mané, who captained the Lions of Teranga, is closing a 14-year spell with the Senegal national team. Over that period, he earned 130 caps, becoming one of the most influential figures in the country’s modern football history.
A former Liverpool winger and the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations winner, Mané first rose to prominence in France with FC Metz before moving on to greater challenges. With his Senegal exit, he leaves behind the reputation of a true icon of Senegalese football.
In his message, Mané said: “Know that I sacrificed everything for this flag. I gave the very best of myself and I always fought fiercely for our homeland.”
