When Britney Spears sang “toxic”, she probably got her inspiration from these ZAleb couples.
Okay, probably not. But there are people out here who are in the kind of relationship everybody else looks at in disbelief, wondering why they stay together. These are some of the most toxic ZAleb relationships ever.
Sophie Ndaba and Max Lichaba
Generations actress Sophie Ndaba's son shook the country when he released a hit diss track earlier this year. The track was titled 'My Step Dad A Devil', and was meant for his mother's soon-to-be ex-husband Max Lichaba.
The son, Lwandle "Ocean L" Ndaba, detailed the toxic relationship between Sophie and Lichaba, which supposedly includes emotional abuse like gaslighting and body shaming, as well as physical violence.
After everything she went through in that relationship, it's great that she has finally found a way to leave, and should be finalising the process soon. At least we hope so.

Bongani and Buhle Fassie
Bongani Fassie, the late Brenda Fassie's son, also made headlines for being in a toxic relationship. The country was shook when his wife Buhle revealed on camera that she sometimes slaps him.

Nandi Mbatha and NaakMusiQ
Actress Nandi Mbatha recently alluded to having had a very toxic relationship with musician and actor, Anga “NaakMusiQ” Makubalo. According to Nandi, NaakMusiQ cheated extensively on her, and would even sneak out of their marital bed in the middle of the night.

AKA and DJ Zinhle
DJ Zinhle and AKA were terrible together. There were reports of rampant infidelity, and AKA was reported to have cheated on Zinhle while she was pregnant.
The two broke up, much to everyone's disappointment, as many had rooted for them as a cute couple. Zinhle has since found love with Murdah Bongz. But she is on good terms with AKA now, and they coparent their daughter, Kairo Forbes.

Black Coffee and Enhle Mbali
It is probably for the best that these two got divorced. Allegedly, Black Coffee was also a serial cheater, and had fathered two children out of wedlock. They had been together for ten years.
Their split was just as toxic as their marriage seems to have been. Enhle has reportedly demanded increasing amounts of money for maintenance from the DJ, and their drama has just recently cooled off.
AKA and Bonang
AKA is on the list again. Bonang Matheba is supposedly who he cheated on Zinhle with. Is it any surprise that their relationship was doomed too? We try not to judge, but cheating is not exactly the best way to start off a healthy relationship, is it?

Boity and Cassper
Boity Thulo and Cassper Nyovest were also sweethearts for a while, until they broke up suddenly. Cass later revealed that he had cheated on Boity because he wasn't ready for her. The two have since patched things up and are friends, but their relationship was certainly not "goals".

It may be surprising to find out that our favourite ZAlebs have been in toxic relationships too. But they are human, and they are also flawed. As long as they are out and choosing better for themselves, that's what's important.
