For many people, Big Xhosa was nothing but a gimmick who would trend on social media for a few days (maybe weeks) and then fade away shortly after the rapper released his diss track in which he came for Mzansi rappers one by one.

His 'Hit Em Up' freestyle, titled Ninyile, where rappers such as Nasty C, Cassper, Stogie T, A-reece and Kwesta were dissed, heated up the SA hip hop game and garnered him a huge following on social media. The rapper also made big numbers on his YouTube, where he has released other music videos.
With this, he made some rappers uncomfortable and ruffled some feathers, subsequently inheriting beefs. He started twarring with Cassper, Emtee, and Ambitiouz Records. His beef with Ambitiouz was over who made bigger numbers, this after tweeps were curious to know if the record label would sign the rapper. The spicy exchange started when Ambitiouz referred to Big Xhosa as 'Takalani', to which he told them to focus more on their artist Kid Tini; adding screenshots of the Youtube numbers he has made in a short space of time in comparison to that of the Cinga rapper.
Prior to his breakthrough, the rapper made music under the name SOS, which was a totally different person to his alter ego Big Xhosa. SOS speaks more to the soul and drops bars - he is a lyricist. On the other hand, Big Xhosa (a name he says he got from making funny videos on Tik Tok in his mother tongue IsiXhosa) is a funny, uncensored and wild gimmick that many people do not take seriously.
However, the Zumest rapper is proving to the game that he definitely deserves a seat at the table. His recent Lemon Pepper Freestyle, in which he features himself, is proof of that.
Big Xhosa dropped an unexpected bomb with his recent remix of Drake's Lemon Pepper Freestyle hit. From the music video, which incorporated the personalities of both Big Xhosa and SOS, to the lyricism; Twitter was impressed. It is safe to say that he has garnered even more respect and and his fanbase has just gotten big, bigger, biggest.
"Big Xhosa just pulled a Nas, Drake, DMX and Pitch Black Afro in one video," Bawse wrote.
Ashton T Omari Ndou wrote, "Now big Xhosa is certified strategic. He pulled a madlephutho(sp) on us. He got me thinking that he'd never ever do what he did on that lemon pepper Freestyle. BTW I just subscribed to his YouTube channel."
"South African rappers must sit down and take notes from Big Xhosa," Kamo Marven said.
"That Big Xhosa dude came through with a great breakthrough strategy, big things are coming his way," Giqwa wrote.
While Khwezi Mqoboli wrote, "I like how Big Xhosa penetrated the industry . Now that people know him, he will show his true rapping skills and people are gonna pay attention."
