If some of your colleagues of friends are coming into work this morning and yawning quite loudly, it could have something to do with M-Net's overnight event, the Game Of Thrones season 5 cinematic premiere. Dozens of GoT fans were invited to cinemas around the country to watch the premiere of the popular show's fifth season. Even if you're not a die-hard Game of Thrones watcher (or reader) you have to admit that there's something pretty cool about being able to watch the first release at the same time as the rest of the world.
Our video producer, Altamish Khan, made his way to the Hyde Park Nu Metro cinema, in Johannesburg, to watch the first episode of the fifth season in one of the most anticipated series premieres a lot of us have ever experienced.
He had nothing but good things to say about the set up as well as the hospitality shown to the entire audience by hosts, M-Net Edge.
"M-Net Edge did a stunning job as hosts, especially to set up this event at 3am in the morning! it was great to see such a turnout as well; all of the fans and viewers showed up in outfits as their favourite Game of Thrones characters, and people were given prizes for their efforts."
The premiere itself was a spectacle as M-Net and Nu Metro combined to show off the first episode of what is arguably the biggest show on Earth right. The premiere was hosted at 3AM to ensure that the most loyal South Africans were able to watch their favourite show as it aired in the USA. You can only imagine how crazy the tweets were (After all, you can't watch something without live tweeting these days!) Have a look at a few of the tweets below.
Alt fellow GoT fans were rewarded for their risilience (After all, not only was this event in the middle of the night/morning, but it's quite cold at this time of year, especially in Johannesburg!) with some exciting M-Net goodies.
"We were given Game of Thrones sweaters, mugs and official merchandise, all of it marked with 'Winter is Coming'"
Even the harshest winter wopuld fail to ward off the dedication shown by these Game of Thrones fans this morning. I commend each and every one of you. I wouldn't join, because I love my sleep... but I commend you all.
