This is as 2022 Samthing Soweto opened up a lot about his personal struggles with mental health. As reported at the time:
For those not in the know, Samthing Soweto was part of the original formation of hit acapella group of the late 2000s into the 2010s The Soil. But due to internal drama, Samthing Soweto left the group just as they were about to become the legendary group they have since become.
He then attempted to create his own band called The Fridge, which arguably did not make any mark in the music industry. Then Samthing Soweto struck gold as an amapiano vocalist and his path to super stardom was paved. During the height of his popularity as this innovator within amapiano, Samthing Soweto was honest about needing to deal with his depressive states, which at the time seemed to be attached to poverty and the slump he faced following leaving The Soil. But as we have all come to learn, depression or depressive states are not linked to finances.
Moreover, Samthing Soweto was the site of concern later that year when the matter of his weight loss became topical. While other artists would have ignored the concerns amongst the trolls, Samthing Soweto proved his star status in gold when responding to the matter. At the time sharing:
Samthing Soweto has addressed some of the hurtful and mean comments he got from people judging his weight loss. The singer, although he does not owe anybody an explanation saw it necessary to talk about what has been worrying people regarding his weight, putting all the rumours to rest.

The singer took to his Instagram account to lay some of the rumours to rest and spoke about how the comments left him grateful more than hurt. Clarifying his weight loss, Samthing Soweto said he is going through some personal issues but he is not sick.
"I just wanted to address what's happening, people talking about my weight and stuff. You know what, guys are not wrong, I am going through a lot. I just want to thank everyone who sent their prayers, loving messages, and support."
