South African export has bagged a nomination for Outstanding Actress in TV MOVIE/LIMITED SERIES at the Black Reel TV Awards.
Thuso recently made an appearance on the popular Ellen DeGeneres talk show. She said this was her first in-studio interview.
Sharing the exciting news on Instagram, Thuso wrote: “Had a great time on @theellenshow. She shared the exciting news through social media. This was my very first in-studio interview (EVERYTHING else has been virtual). Can you tell how excited I was? Don’t think I could’ve smiled any wider even if I tried (last frame)”
Mzansi came into a standstill in May when The Underground Railroad premiered. Joburg Theatre also hosted an exclusive watch party screening the first episode of The Underground Railroad on Friday, May 14. Thuso became the first South African actress to lead an American TV series. She plays Cora in the series.
The iconic Oprah Winfrey gave Thuso a special shout-out ahead of The Underground Railroad premier.
"@thuso.mbedu gives the performance of a lifetime. Great things are coming for her and everyone will be saying her name after watching her as the superhero that is Cora," said Oprah on her Instagram.
A few days ago, Thuso left Mzansi stunned after sharing a picture of herself out and about with Hollywood stars such as Charlize Theron. Charlize had invited Thuso to the screening of Fast and Furious9.
Thanking Charlize for the invitation, She wrote: “WHAT AN AMAZING EVENING! Fresh air. Good vibes. Good people. Good franchise. Good energy. Good outreach project. Good everything. Thank you very much @charlizeafrica for inviting us to the screening of #Fast9. Thank you for all the work you’re doing with #CTAOP."
Essence Magazine named Thuso one of the most promising black Hollywood stars. She made it to number 16 on the list. She was also featured on the Magazine's May/June issue this year.
The magazine wrote: “Emmy-nominated Thuso Mbedu is one of the most compelling new faces on television. Her road to perdition began during her teenage years on drama series like Snake Park and Scandal. The sky’s the limit for the early-20-year-old and Mbedu’s reaching for higher heights. She’s set to make her international debut in Barry Jenkins’ “The Underground Railroad,” which is based on the Colson Whitehead novel of the same name. There’s no doubt that this young phenom will be a force to headline marquee posters in the near future.”
She was featured on Vogue Magazine’s May issue. Sharing the exciting news on Twitter, Thuso posted her picture with a caption: “Things to look forward to: The May 2021 issue of vogue Magazine celebrating Mr. Giorgio Armani”
