Thuso Nokwanda Mbedu was born on 8 July 1991 in Pelham, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. As of 2022, the actress is 31 years old. 

Unfortunately, she got a rough start in life as her mother passed away when she was young and thus was raised by her grandmother. 

Thuso didn’t also grow up with her father as her parents separated. He died in 2012 and a year later, her grandmother died. Thuso has a sister named Nomalungelo Mbedu.

Thuso Mbedu attended Pelham Primary School and later joined Pietermaritzburg High School. 

She furthered her education at the University of Witwatersrand and graduated with a degree in physical theatre and performing arts management. Thuso flew to the United States and joined the Stellar Adler Studio of Acting.

Thuso Mbedu’s professional acting exploits began in 2014 when she debuted on Isibaya as Nosisa. The following year, she took up the role of Kitso on Scandal. 

This was followed by Is’thunzi, which took up the character of Winnie, a young lady who dreamt of marrying a rugby player. 

The role opened more doors for her. She was part of MTV Shuga’s cast list, Side Dish, Saints and Sinners.

In 2020, Thuso Mbedu went international. She received a starring role in Amazon Prime series The Underground Railroad
