Podcaster MacG and Sol weighed in on this on their popular Podcast. MacG believes that she can handle most things on her own.
"When you are Lady Du's level - do you actually need a manager? Because I'm not at Lady Du's level but when I was at Y, my mom was my manager. She was like a booking agent. She handled the admin," he shared.
Sol agrees with Mac G to some degree.
"You are reactionary. You get e-mails and WhatsApps and you react to those. You don't go out hunting for deals. You react to the deals. They will come, what we need to know is if the venue is indoor or outdoor, how far is it, x and y and with all those things considered this is how much we charge," interjected Sol.
Mac then reveals that he is using an old friend, whom he trusts as his booking agent.
"Right now I'm using Jason because I trust him. I've developed a relationship with him, I've been working with him for a while.
"He is not my manager, he is like my booking agent. So when you are Lady Du and you are that big, don't you just need a booking agent?" He asked.
Sol weighs in on possible reasons why Lady Du, as big as she is chose her current manager.
"Now that you are saying it's Thabiso he's worked in the media space. That's where maybe he could sell. You know Thabiso Khathi was one of the guys who came up with the Y FM logo 'Yona Ke Yona'" he continues.
"He was in that team that decided the slogan and he's always been around the entertainment game. He's got an agency so I think maybe due to that he could've said this is what I've done.
"He has gotten K.O a deal I could do this and that, I'm connected in this way. I agree with you though because he doesn't need a manager. Her e-mails probably just come flooding in," said Sol.
In a lengthy and heartfelt social media post over the weekend, Lady Du said she didn't need connections to be a successful musician.
"I have worked days and nights trying to build myself, I have never been helped financially, I don’t have industry connections, I have genuinely built a career for myself that is run by the people, you guys have made me who I am today.
"It’s sad that at times we have to smile but we are actually broken beings. we have to give hugs to people when we actually need them ourselves. I’d like to thank you guys personally for being my strength, I’d like to tell you how important you all are to me. It is because of you that I could still continue and not give up on myself.
According to her post, she was not aware of the situation.
"I was not aware of what was happening, I actually thought I was losing my fire when someone just decided to have a say in my life. To all the promoters that just woke up and decided to direct message me thank you. I’m not one to fight nje and I’ve tried my level best to keep it in and not say anything but I thought naaaa people go through sooo much in this industry, these new age amapiano Kids need a person that will actually be transparent so they see the industry isn’t as easy as it looks.
Going forward, she wants all music-related queries to be sent to the number and e-mail address in her bio.
"I have a catalog that has sooo many hits, I’ve missed out on serious opportunities but that’s ok, that’s in the past now, I don’t ever cry for things that I can’t control.
"I’d like to ask you to directly send requests to the number on my bio, or the email on my wall. I’m sorry I didn’t drop my EP, I was going through alot, I’m sorry I haven’t been myself, but after today, we move differently. Don’t forget to pray every day women need protection from people that actually take advantage of the fact that they are men," posted the Amapiano star.
