It seems as though all efforts to revive Babes' music career are falling flat as this concert was one of the few tactics she had in place to revive it.
When she was pit against Kamo Mphela, Babes had to remind people who she is and what she has achieved.
People said some pretty mean things about Babes, with some saying she has fallen off and some saying she could have been very far in life had she not decided to get married and have a baby.
Fans saw Babes touring the world like Kamo and becoming a powerhouse but instead she doubled down a bit and chose the other route.
Raising a baby is not easy so Babes needed all the time she could tp recuperate. However, getting back into the spotlight was her way of showing people she is not down and out.
According to sources who spoke to Daily Sun, Babes' concert allegedly did not receive the needed marketing support it did. Concerts such as this need to be promoted to the best of people's abilities however with her concert, there was only 1 poster that was out and Babes herself only posted it once.
However, here's the plot twist, on the exact same day, Mampintsha dropped his EP Diego and it featured Babes. If you check out his Instagram page, you will only see Diego being promoted numerous times instead of his wife's concert.
On the one hand, Babes only posted about Diego once.
A source told the paper, “It was not highly marketed. Only a few people knew about it. Even on social media effort was not done, which is why it didn’t happen. Instead of promoting the show, Mampintsha’s EP Diego was the one being promoted. And, it was released on the same date as the show.”
But another source said money was the issue as there were no sponsors for the show, “It was never going to be a success because it was struggling financially. It was hard for the organisers since they had to work on a tight budget. There were no sponsors and the concert had to be postponed since Babes Wodumo wanted it to be big and talked about it in all corners of Mzansi.”
So with the show getting postponed where does that leave Babes?
Her manager Keke Mokoena said the new COVID-19 variant Omicorn is the reason for this postponement. The manager claims to have been advised to move the date looking at how the variant is behaving.
It is up to the fans to decide which story they buy.
Speaking about the concert at the time, she told Daily Sun that “Firstly, I’m excited because this is the first time I get to host my own show. Secondly, what’s important for me right now is to reconnect with people who love Babes and her music, and all the music lovers. I cannot wait to get onto that stage and perform for my fans. This is an event that I want to mark as the festive season’s party starter in KZN,” she told the paper.
The concert would have featured Sjava, DJ Lag and Que DBN. “It will be a night of great performances,” she added.
Tickets were sold at Webtickets, from R200 and VIP access for R400. The concert was booked to take place at the Durban Amphitheater in North Beach on December 3.
