Several reports suggest that the Bishop was arrested in relation to the alleged sex scandal involving a former employee. Daily Sun reported that the National Prosecuting Authority Of South Africa (NPA) confirmed that Bishop was charged with sexual assault.
Phindi Mjonondwane from the NPA, said he was arrested after the then 17-year-old employee of his reported him on the 19th this month, at the Brackendowns Police Station. "The case relates to an incident that allegedly happened in his church office in Alrode during September 2018," she said.
Phindi then confirmed that Bishop appeared at the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court which decided to release him on bail of R2000, "The Palm Ridge Magistrates' Court released Bishop Israel Makamu on R2000 bail following a brief appearance on a charge of sexual assault."
The Rea Tsotella host denied asking the woman for sex and said he was asking for his church office keys instead. He made many claims suggesting that the family tampered with the recording to make it seem as though it was anything sinister.
He was a guest on Moja Love's AmaBishop where he even denied that the woman was 17 years old saying he would not have employed her if she was.
Speaking about the context of the recording, he said he was just being playful and silly, but he realised that it was wrong of him to do so as it sounds very wrong.
When asked why did he ask her if she was alone and nobody would see him if he was only asking for his keys. He answered and said because of his high ranking at the church, it would not look good if he enters a congregants room at night alone.
Speaking about allegations of trying to bribe the family with R1 million to make the story go away, he laughed at such claims saying there is no way he could have afforded a million in 2018. In addition to that, he does not think that the clip is worth a million as there is no scandal here.
But that's not all, a organisation called Kwanele Mfundisi revealed more damning claims against the Bishop.
"After tonight's episode of #AMABISHOP, I'm inundated with inboxes and calls, truth is I was never made aware of this recording. I only discovered later that day after the recording, on the 18th of May
"I did query why 1/#kwaneleMfundisi wasn't invited to this recording as we have multiple cases that have subsequently emerged regarding this bishop, old and most recent ones," the post read. "I never recieved any response from the Moja love producers when I enquired about this and also subsequently alerted them of other woman who have contacted Kwanele Mfundisi about Makamu TV," the founder added.
