Another star who recently opened up about her mental health challenges is former Isibaya actress Mbali ''Enhle"' Mlotshwa. She said she was depressed following her divorce from multi-award-winning DJ Black Coffee.
She sat down with Dineo Ranaka and Sol Phenduka on the Kaya 959 Breakfast show on Thursday 18 August, and broke her silence. According to Enhle, she was mourning the "death of love."
“I was mourning all the work and the fight I had put in to make something work.
“I walked myself into a mental institution and I remember my psychologist saying – you are seven years late but you made it," she continued.
“From that day healing began and by the time I did sincerely yours I was completely comfortable with where I was and comfortable with moving forward," she added.
It is no secret mental illness is one of the leading causes of death amongst young people. The death of Riky Rick and Patrick Shai recently sparked a whole conversation around mental health.
The veteran actor allegedly took his own life on Saturday, 22 January. According to reports. His wife discovered him dead in their garage in Dobsonville. Speaking at his funeral service Masechaba Shai, encouraged her kids to mize whatever negativity the world says about their father.
“My kids, don't take serious what people say about your father because you know him. He was no saint. I am not a saint and you are also not innocent but still, he was a human being. South Africa, let us forgive because God forgives all of us all the time.
“I am not an actor, I am realist. I am not a robot but a human being. I am not crying but crying for my kids and I don't know how are they going to recover from this. Patrick was like a child, he played a lot. I called him Ntwana," she said.
Shai was followed by Riky Rick who died at the age of 34 on February 23, 2022. According to Sunday World the rapper committed suicide at his home. Additionally, the publication published a heartbreak suicide note for his wife Bianca and their children.
In the alleged suicide note, he apologized for being the one giving up and said the pain was too much, "The pain is too much. I don't want you to blame yourself for my life being unbearable. You gave me more love than I deserved. Live your life. Do not hide the light you have me every day.
I am sorry for being the one who gives up but the pain I feel is too much to deal with. The voices in my head have never gone away. I wish I was stronger, but I am not. Please forgive me. I love you."
