It all started with an innocent picture that Simphiwe posted of herself and daughter, Zazi, as she has come to be affectionately known on social media. The image was meant to give mother-daughter goals. In the image, Simphiwe’s face is snatched to the gods, while serving is serving as supermodel vibes all the way. The suggestion was confirmed by her mother through a comment that was shared by a fan asking why Zazi was “mean mugging,” with Simphiwe explaining that she was channeling her inner Noami Campbell.
For anyone that has not had the time to check Zazi’s Instagram feed, the baby girl is an aspiring model. Her feed is filled with a variety of images featuring the teenager serving nothing but looks. It is clear looking at her specially curated page that Zazi is working towards being out future South African supermodel, who will be in the same league as some of our current favorite beauties that rock the runway and print campaigns.
However, instead of some male tweeps and trolling Instagrammers having enough sense to be respectable; the comments section shows that some decided to sexualize the teenager with offensive and predatory comments. However, trust protective mama-bear to not take things lying down and taking to social media to name and shame the men that had the audacity to suggest that Simphiwe should “hand over” her daughter to them so they can “raise her up.”
Simphiwe not only named and shamed the predator, but went as far as to tag the respected businesses that follow the predator. The “Zandisile” musician made it clear that she will take on anyone anything that threatens her children by not only naming-and-shaming the predator, but brands that have a relationship with said predators.
The star is not the only media personality that has needed to address the predatory tendencies of some male social media users. Other celebrities that have needed to make their no-nonsense stance clear when it comes to the sexualizing of their children include Khanyi Mbau, and DJ Zinhle. DJ Zinhle had to do so repeatedly to merely remind social media users that her daughter is a child, a young one at that.
