Ogun ADC Rejects Alleged Governorship Primary Winner Announcement as Unauthorized

Politics

Ogun State’s chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has moved to discredit a purported announcement from Barrister Adebimpe Adelowo over the party’s governorship primary, saying the claim was unauthorised and has no standing.

Quick facts

  • The party said Barrister Adebimpe Adelowo’s alleged declaration of a winner was unauthorized, null and void.
  • ADC said the official primary supervision committee was chaired by Adeniyi Adams, with Babatunde Moshood as secretary.
  • ADC maintained the governorship primary was held peacefully across all wards in Ogun State.
  • The party stated Dr. Biodun Collins Ogundipe, popularly known as BCO, won the primary and was declared winner.
  • ADC condemned the circulation of fabricated results and urged the public to ignore fake figures ahead of the 2027 elections.

The position was set out in a statement signed by the party’s Ogun State Publicity Secretary, Hon. Olumide Onabajo. The ADC said the declaration allegedly made by Barrister Adelowo was not backed by the party’s authorised process.

In the statement, ADC argued that Barrister Adelowo was not part of the electoral committee appointed by the national leadership to oversee the governorship primary in Ogun State. On that basis, the party said he had no remit to announce any outcome for the ADC.

ADC identified the approved committee as being led by Adeniyi Adams, with Babatunde Moshood acting as secretary. The party presented this leadership structure as the basis for recognising any official results connected to the exercise.

The ADC further insisted that the governorship primary election was conducted peacefully across all wards in Ogun State, supervised by the recognised committee. It said Dr. Biodun Collins Ogundipe—known as BCO—emerged as the winner and was formally announced as such.

The party also said the exercise met standards of being free, fair, and credible. It pointed to widespread oversight during the voting and collation phases, citing monitoring by party officials and members, security services, observers, and other stakeholders across the state.

ADC condemned attempts by what it described as unauthorised actors to spread what it called fabricated figures in order to sow confusion among party members and the general public. It said the misrepresentation was intended to mislead stakeholders about who won the primary.

Party response to “misleading publication”

In a separate but related statement, ADC’s Ogun State chapter said it had become aware of what it termed a misleading publication claiming that Barrister Adebimpe Adelowo announced Otunba Jimi Lawal as the winner of the Ogun State governorship primary election.

The party said it was issuing a clear denial of that report, stating that the claimed announcement was null and void, misleading, and of no effect whatsoever. ADC framed its intervention as a corrective measure to prevent the false claim from taking root within the party and beyond.

ADC added that Dr. Ogundipe remains committed to working toward a united and prosperous Ogun State through people-centred governance. It said his agenda includes youth empowerment and job creation through technology, agriculture, and industrial development.

The statement also highlighted plans for improved healthcare services and the revitalisation of education. ADC said the programme would include support for small businesses and infrastructure renewal across the state.

Looking ahead, the ADC assured its members and supporters that the party is united and focused toward the 2027 general elections. It urged members of the public to disregard what it described as fake results currently being circulated.

At the end of the text, the party reiterated the substance of its warning, stating that the governorship primary result was falsely and misleadingly announced, and that Dr. Biodun Collins Ogundipe won.
