On Tuesday, 15 February 2023, the Forbes family released the official details in regards to the memorial and funeral service of rapper and local Hip-Hop legend Kiernan “AKA’ Forbes. Since then the circumstance surrounding their passing has been confirmed as a suicide as it was reported recently:
… Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi in a recent interview confirmed that the rapper was in fact assassinated. Moreover, Mkhwanazi described the sequence of events more vividly in attempting to make it clear why the SAPS have settled on this conclusion by sharing that:“He did not shoot the friend that was with him, but he shot AKA twice, and he ran away. The other criminal engaged and fired a couple of shots, and one of his bullets managed to strike Motsoane, and he died.”
In light of AKA’s impact, the family released the details of the memorial and funeral services which will take place on Thursday, 16 February 2023 and Saturday, 18 February 2023 respectively.
The family did confirm that for the memorial set to take place at the Sandton Convention Centre, there are tickets available for members of the public that wish to be present. But less than 24 hours later, the family has shared an update in terms of ticket availability.

Tickets to AKA’s memorial no longer available
The recent statement by the Forbes family confirmed that tickets for the upcoming memorial to AKA are no longer available. The centre is reported to have a capacity of up to 10 000 visitors. But what is unclear is whether or not this was the actual estimated capacity of attendees of the memorial service.
Moreover, just in case the public believed that the tickets were put on sale, the Forbes family made it clear that the tickets were not sold to the public but were provided on request. As such the public is asked to also not sell their tickets if they were lucky to get them.
While tickets to physically be at the memorial are not available, the memorial will be available to watch via a live stream. However, the family has yet to share the link to the live stream.
Another person who will probably live stream the memorial while his wife and step-daughter attend is the husband to DJ Zinhle, Bongani “Morda” Mohosana as reported:
As Zinhle has been supportive and many have charged her husband, Bongani “Morda” Mohosana with being a supportive father figure to Kairo Forbes, it seems that he will not be attending the funeral. This is as the statement attributed the fact to “observing cultural protocol.”
But it seems that Zinhle was ahead of the headlines the story was going to make. This is as she took to social media to share a touching image of herself with her husband. It seems that she wanted to assert that she is happy with her husband despite how involved she has been with the funeral and memorial arrangements of her ex and the father of her eldest daughter.
