The amapiano hitmaker's Facebook followers did not take kindly to him looking down on other artists when he criticised their music skills.
Taking to his Facebook account, he wrote: “I think some artists must come consult with me before they release songs cause, ja no, it’s not happening shame."
With many people taking tk the comments section to remind the DJ to tone it down and remain humble, one Facebook user's comment got under his skin. A user by the name Vusi Man Rush Masango made examples of a few artists who were once on top of their game but stayed humble.
“DJ Cleo was once on top of his game. We never thought it would end. TS Records had their moments. Talent was massive and we never thought it would end. Cassper Nyovest once ruled the industry up until he decided to join all kinds of genres.
"Bouga Luv was on fire. We thought nobody could stop him. Kalawa Jazzmee produced so many artist and talents, but they stay in their lane, very humble and disciplined. Should I continue?" Vusi wrote.
This comparison did not sit well with the "Emcimbini" hitmaker who did not want to be compared to anyone.
“Nyenyenye continue what? Don’t compare me. I’m my own version. I’m different, just watch my moves. Don’t wish me bad," Maphorisa replied.
More users made the DJ Cleo comparison while others suggested that he indeed avails himself because many big artists are so busy they do not have time to cultivate young talent.
"Your ego reminds me of Cleo during his days when he made hit after hit. Then suddenly he thought he was bigger than the game. Life will humble you," a user wrote.
"Get off ur high horse n just simply do music, yes u've made it bt dnt look down on other's bcos life iskorokoro Poi it's so unpredictable tsamo botsa Cleo Poi. [sic]"
"Personally, I think this is not fair because you’ll be very busy and hard to be found by these artists. Many are killing it already without you. Please humble yourself, phori. If you want to help, make time and avail yourself and make sure they can afford you. Don’t belittle anyone. Lewena you started somewhere. Someone believed in you and gave you a chance," another user wrote.
With all the comments pouring in, and with others accusing him of being a leech that used Kabza De Small to jump onto the amapiano wave, Maphorisa posted a picture of Kabza with his mansion in the background.
Patting himself, Madumane, on the back, he wrote: "When I say Madumane ke Ghost i mean it. 5 cars n a 5 million house its been wat 3 years now working together ❤️🙏🏾 Visionary 👁 Ke Piano 😂😂😂"
Maphorisa also clarified to the masses that he is "not arrogant but confident."
