TV and media personality Pearl Thusi is one of South Africa’s most outspoken celebrities on social media. Pearl does not shy away from clapping back at cyberbullies who harass her. The TV star has received major backlash on social media after tweeting about cyber bullying following the untimely passing of multi-award rapper Riky Rick.

The rapper's passing prompted a heated conversation around mental health, depression and cyberbullying. It is no secret that cyberbullying is a leading cause of depression and suicide worldwide. Since the shocking passing of Riky Rick, celebrities and ordinary people have been raising awareness about mental health and encouraging kindness.

Pearl weighed in on this but her two cents were not well received by tweeps. Tweeps want her to hold herself accountable and call out social media bullies she knows. Practice what you preach maybe?  She opened a can of worms after tweeting "Cyber bullying is an actual disease. A cancer in today’s society."

Tweeps dragged Pearl and accused her of associating herself with toxic bullies on the platform.

One tweep also accused her of hosting parties for Twitter bullies.

In another tweet, Pearl tweeted about how she has suffered from cyber bullying, ''When the bullying happens I for one can say I’ve heard seriously dark thoughts and I’m still not sure how I survived and overcame them Mainly it’s knowing that people who say hurtful things are usually in a darker place where no one matters including themselves."

As if that was not enough @TshepangMaphal3 dragged her mercilessly accusing her of being a role model of cyber bullying. "You out of all people, no no no. You one of the best models of cyber bullying. You have no right to use this to push your agenda. Go apologize to @ntsikimazwai and learn to stop being a hypocrite.  Not impressed at all. Actions speak louder than words mfazi"

We may not know what triggered Riky Rick’s suicide, but many have been alleging he was depressed since he had opened up about his struggles with depression. The rapper died in the early hours of Wednesday morning. According to Sunday World, he hung himself at his home in Johannesburg. A source informed the paper that Riky was alive but unfortunately, on the way to the hospital he died.
